Baked Catfish Fillet on a Bed of Vegetables

Baked Catfish Fillet on a Bed of Vegetables photo

Baked catfish with vegetables is a tasty and balanced recipe, ideal for those who want to eat healthily at home. Vegetables such as onions, carrots, and peppers form the basis of a flavorful bed on which the fish is placed—baked together at 180 °C until the fish is tender and the vegetables are lightly caramelized. It’s no big secret that fish should be a staple in your diet and that it’s even better to eat it more often than meat. Catfish is a fish from the northern seas, so it’s rich in all kinds of vitamins, micro and macro elements. Its meat is very tender, tasty, and fatty. These advantages make the fish somewhat difficult to prepare.

Cooking catfish in the oven allows every housewife to please her loved ones with a whole steak, rather than pieces of it. I will tell you how easy it is to cook this fish so that it does not fall apart. To do this, you just need to bake it in the oven.

  • The catfish was purchased frozen, so first we need to defrost it. Let’s do this on the table without using the microwave, gradually draining the liquid. Finally, we will wipe the steaks with napkins. True, it will not be possible to completely remove the liquid, but this is not a concern.
  • Sprinkle the thawed steaks with lemon juice, marinate briefly with fish seasoning and paprika, salt, chili, and lemon powder.
  • While the fish is marinating, prepare the vegetables. Peel and chop the onion, carrots, and peppers—the onion into half-rings, the peppers and carrots into random pieces.
  • Place the vegetables in the bottom of an ovenproof dish and pour in the vegetable oil.
  • Place the catfish steaks on top of them.
  • Add a little sweet pepper on top of the fish.
  • Cover the dish with foil to allow the vegetables to cook. Place the fish in the oven at 180°C for 20 minutes.
  • Remove the fish and vegetables from the oven.
  • Grate the cheese over the hot steaks. It will melt immediately. If you want a golden brown cheese crust, you can put the dish back in the oven at maximum heat for another five minutes.
  • The most tender, sweet-tasting, Omega-3-rich, delicious catfish is ready. It can be served with vegetables that have been cooked with it, or with any other side dish according to our taste and discretion. Remove the steaks from the pan using a wide spatula.
