Meet your new savory comfort go-to: pan-fried cheese pies — Romania’s semi-hard, nutty cheese. Whip up a simple dough, stuff it with grated cheese, and cook until each turnover turns golden-crispy outside and ooey-gooey inside. These little pockets are perfect for breakfast with sour cream, a light salad, or even on-the-go snacking. Easy, satisfying, and utterly delicious—Romanian charm in every bite.

  • Form 4 balls from the cut dough.
  • Roll out the dough ball with a rolling pin and place a ball of cheese in the middle.
  • Bring the edges together.
  • Press the edges firmly so that the filling does not spill out.
  • Sprinkle a little flour on top and roll out gently with a rolling pin. Repeat with the remaining 3 balls of dough.
  • Heat a non-stick frying pan without oil; the pan must be dry. Then place the pie in the pan. Fry for 3-4 minutes over low heat.
  • Turn over and fry for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Transfer the pies to a plate and brush them with a little butter.
  • The savory cheese pies are ready. Enjoy!
